Should one have to change his God

These days I have discussion with father of my colleague who happens a renowned personality in Lucknow for his works for spread of Urdu literature. Defying his age he is always on the run for advocating reservation policy, motivating lower caste people for worshiping Lord Buddha. At the time of Eid he started sharing merits of Muslim religion and highlighted that every prosperous Muslim has share a fixed part of his income for the welfare of poor people. "Brahmins are always taking some gifts from people on every festivals, while Muslims are supposed to Give to the poor." He emphasized this fact, but he lowered his voice when he shared that Muslims are supposed to share with other poor Muslims only.

One should have clarity in mind that service to religion and service to society has different meaning. Donating something for the cause of religion should be referred as religious offer or service to religion and not to service to society. If one can not save the independence of thought, choice of worshiping God, then what is the meaning of getting things for mere betterment of our physical existence.

Sharing things with family members is never equated with social work, though one is expected to share things with your family and relatives. Sharing things with religious/sect/caste etc fellows should be taken in the same spirit and should be taken in the same spirit. This should be avoided to be equated with Social Service.

Social service should be done with independent mind without discriminating the needy on the basis of religion/caste/sect/country etc.

Some years back, one of my friend who is an civil servant asked me should he give blood to a Pakistani or not in some hospital in New Delhi. Without giving next thought I suggested him to donate blood to him. Then he told that these Pakistani would kill us. I told this is the time of tasting our humanity, our ethos of brotherhood and we should be guided by that action only. In the war we will not hesitate to bleed for the sake of safety of our Nation. He happily donated blood to him. At that I also reached on the spot and have a long communication with his colleague (Pakistani) who was just like another fellow. Our conversation needs another post. Anyway he also invited us to visit Pakistan and assured our safety that what is being shown in media is not the reality on the ground.

So promote social service, that is the greatest virtue and that is the real service to God.
